Character Canon: Persona 3

History: Mitsuru’s Wiki Page

AU History: The Kirijo Family are one of the many noble families that live in Union. As a family of scientists and researchers, a lot of their money has gone back into improving Union and the everyday lives of the ‘common folk’, while keeping company with those that meet the strict guidelines set by the family elder. The current elder is Mitsuru’s grandfather, Kouetsu Kirijo, with her father, Takeharu, leading the business aspect of the Kirijo Group. Her mother, Hanae, helps with some of the work and as such has made business connections with the upper-middle class citizens. One such family is the Amagi family—the daughter of which has been approved to be Mitsuru’s friend.

While out with her father as a young teen, they were attacked by a group of stampeding Rhyhorn. Her abilities manifested, but they were ultimately saved by two Shifters, who she became friends with, her father’s permission being very openly on for it after meeting both boys. (It didn’t come without consequences for her family, as he lost his left eye in the attack from a flying ice shard, something Mitsuru regrets terribly.) She is, however, still expected to do her duty to the family, which means marrying the right person and having many children to continue on the Kirijo line, all while making sure that the family business is kept flourishing at her hands as well. Even if she is an Enlightened and a trainer.

Canon Personality: Intelligent. Calculating. Aloof. Naïve. Driven. Guilt-ridden. These words are things that stand out most about the only child of Takeharu Kirijo, CEO of the Kirijo Group. Because that’s who she is to those who see her from the outside, that is how Mitsuru conducts herself. She is top of her class, the student council president, and she also is the leader of the extra-curricular group known as SEES to the school board.

What only her friends get to see is the caring, compassionate young woman who is so riddled with guilt over what her grandfather started with the family’s company that she pushes herself to near-exhaustion to make amends. She was a small child when the events occurred, but she knows enough to feel that as a Kirijo it is her responsibility to take care of the issue with the Dark Hour, Tartarus, and, later, Nyx.

The only time her indelible will wavers is when Shuji Ikutsuki reveals that he’d been using the SEES to bring about The Fall that her grandfather worked towards and then murders her father in front of her. The light that pushes her forward, that allowed her to support the rest of the team after Shinjirou Aragaki’s murder, is extinguished. Even when she returns to school and the team, she’s merely going through the motions, doing what she’s supposed to do. And it isn’t until Yukari literally slaps sense into her that she resolves to fight once more. (It is after this that you can start the Empress S.Link with her.)

Since she is really the Ojou-sama of an important family, Mitsuru has some trouble relating to things that would be normal to those around her like Yukari or Junpei (who are decidedly the most normal members of SEES). She is extremely sheltered and naïve, as the secret recordings in the Chairman’s office that you can watch show you. She has a person who picks out her clothes and keeps them together in outfits for her so she doesn’t have to worry about that. She called the police officer associated with the group because she thought Junpei had been kidnapped. (She found out that he is only a horrendous slob.)

During her S.Link progression, you find out that she also has a practical, cold look on love. As the product of an arranged marriage that grew into love and respect, she sees nothing wrong with that for herself. That is, until she grows closer to the MC and the other teens. Eventually she comes to terms with the fact that she wants to have her own life, and that includes who she loves.

AU Deviation: While the Kirijo Group will no longer be responsible for creating the Dark Hour and starting the mess with Nyx and The Fall, Mitsuru will still have the weight of her family line to contend with and force her to excel. She will struggle with interacting as a “normal” person versus being and Enlightened person and a member of such a prestigious family versus being a trainer to Pokémon.

Canon Abilities:
Mitsuru incorporates her classical fencing training with some good old fashion kicks to the face to finish out her combos for actual physical damage. She is an ice user, with the Bufudyne and Mabufudyne spells in her repertoire. She also has Tentarafoo (which acts as a confuse), Marin Karin (which is definitely a charm), Spirit Drain, Ice Boost, Ice Break (which lowers an enemy’s resistance to ice spells, Mind Charge (a magic boosting spell for short amounts of time), and lastly Diarahan, the most powerful single-target healing spell. (These are all her end-game abilities, after Penthesilea evolves into Artemisia and she has reached level 75+.)
She is also incredibly intelligent, a great strategist, and fluent in French/English.

Skills are as follows:
Bufu > Bufula > Bufudyne / Mabufu > Mabufula > Mabufudyne = Single target Ice attacks/Multiple target Ice Attacks
Ice Amp/Ice Boost = increases ice attacks 25%/50%

Two in harmony surpasses one in perfection.

The Kirijo family motto was etched on Mitsuru’s heart from the time she was a small child. Her grandfather had made sure of that fact. Kouetsu Kirijo was an intimidating man, a figure larger than life throughout her childhood. She remembered watching him handle those who came to see him with the steel-laced precision of a Scyther’s Slash attack. He built the family’s company from a medium-sized research firm to one of the top companies in Union.

It didn’t mean he was an easy man to love.

Compared to him, her own father, Takeharu, was kind and thoughtful. However, he was no pushover. Many people assumed that because he didn’t have the same domineering, bombastic attitude that his father did that he could be manipulated. But, he’d proven time and time again that he was a Kirijo and worthy to be his father’s heir.

Her mother, Hanae, was practically a non-entity most of the time, allowing her husband to make most of the decisions for Mitsuru’s life. Except where her daughter’s friends were concerned. Mitsuru knew that her mother loved her, but she wasn’t an outwardly demonstrative person. She deferred to Takeharu in everything, and the only time she hadn’t was when being introduced to the boys who rescued Mitsuru and Takeharu from stampeding Rhyhorn. She thought them common and uncouth. It wasn’t until her father had stepped in and explained that without some interaction with regular people that Mitsuru wouldn’t actually understand how to help them. Then, Mitsuru had been introduced also to the daughter of a business contact and was expected to become friends with her.

She had so many duties—be a lady, be strong, be smart, be responsible, be kind to everyone, be independent—that she sometimes felt so overwhelmed in her own mind that she escaped into her sword training. While in a way it was just another duty to the pile of things she owed, there was a beauty and stability in it that allowed her to focus solely on it. And that, she believed, was one of the few things that helped her achieve her own harmony within her strict and public family.
